Who is the Rev. Jacquetta Y. Parhams, Ph.D?
Jacquetta Y. Parhams, Ph.D. loves to empower people by helping them become healthier, more balanced and more peaceful.  She began ministry and interned under the late Bishop Benjamin F. Reid, Ph.D., senior pastor of First Church of God in Inglewood, California.  His was the first mega-church in the Church of God, and he trained many ministers and prepared and assisted them to plant churches.  For over 30 years, Dr. Parhams has taught, preached and inSpired people through her speaking and writing.

Since her father was a military man, Parhams grew up traveling the world and developed an openness and understanding of other cultures and peoples.  This openness and understanding helps her in outreach.  Because of a strong sense of her own culture, she finished her dual Bachelor’s degrees in Black Studies/Religious Studies and in English in 1989, then continued on to earn a Master of Divinity degree in Theology with a concentration in MultiCultural Ministries from Fuller Seminary.  After graduation from Fuller Seminary, she began teaching classes and speaking as a guest teacher and preacher.

She also got great joy out of giving the time management presentations she developed after graduating and out of helping people manage their lives with regard to time—so much so that she developed an organization, EFFICIENTIME Life Management.  To Parhams' delight, many of her clients wanted, not only to manage their time better, but to live more healthily physically.  Because she became a vegetarian in 1985 and studied the basics of nutrition in order to maintain a balanced, healthy eating style, she was only too eager to put together a brief list of simple eating and lifestyle changes her clients could implement immediately.  This list became a small book, So How Ya Livin'?: One Guide to Self-Care.

Rev. Parhams learned even more about being wholistic as she published Rhythm of the Drum: Our Wholistic Magazine, which focused on being healthy mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, culturally, politically and financially.  She organized monthly seminars through which to present this same wholistic information to her local readership.  To reach an even broader audience, Rev. Parhams produced and hosted a wholistic health television show, which ran for four years.

In 2002, Rev. Parhams earned a Ph.D. in Metaphysics, and she was ordained a minister in the Church of God in 2011.  The combination of Christianity and Metaphysics made so much sense to Dr. Parhams that she began to synthesize the two into single lessons.  While Christianity focuses on the birth, life, death and resurrection of the Christ and the fact that He gave His life for us, Metaphysics is the branch of philosophy that deals with our reason for being and the nature of reality.  It provides some of the how-to of what is in the Bible.  For example, we know Yeshua/Jesus changed water to wine and walked on water, but most Christians don’t know how He did it and are afraid to explore the possibilities.
Dr. Parhams incorporates material she reads of all types—Christian, other religions, metaphysical, self-help, autobiographical, cultural—into her presentations because she learned many of those sources have some basic tenets in common.  She wants everyone who hears her to have the same exposure without having to learn the lessons, have the experiences or do the research that goes into her well-thought-out and deep-reaching presentations.

As a strong proponent and lover of learning, Dr. Parhams served for three years as Director of the In-Service Training Institute-West, the educational arm of the Interstate Association of the Church of God.  As director, she designed the curriculum, lead the organizational team and coordinated the schedule of classes.  She takes those same educational and administrative skills into her work with her clients.  Likewise, Dr. Parhams takes the skills she used while producing her radio program for the ministry she founded, The Whole-Self Ministries, to teach and share the principles, resources and information she has gleaned and used over the years.

Dr. Parhams makes herself available to teach, preach and speak to inSpire Spiritual growth and wholistic health.  She preaches and teaches the unadulterated Gospel of the Christ.  She teaches metaphysical lessons.  She makes presentations to help people manage their lives more efficiently.  Her spiritual presentations may include pouring libation to honor the ancestral shoulders on which we stand.  She has spoken at various churches and community events, and taught women’s groups, community organizations, student groups, adult classes and many other groups.  Give her a call to make arrangements for her to speak to your group today.
